Titanium is a versatile metal. It is used in various industries due to its unique attributes and properties. Today, there are two classifications of titanium available: titanium alloys, which are usually used to make jet aircraft and
aerospace engines, and commercially pure titanium, which is utilized in the manufacture of tubes, equipment, sheet, bar, and other things.

One of the more popular uses of titanium is in jewelry making. A lot of men and women have expressed appreciation for the strength and durability of this metal, so it should not come as a surprise why titanium jewelry is very commonly seen in
shops and stores.

For many years now, titanium jewellery is considered to be a top choice for jewellery purchases. While there are many consumers already familiar with the advantages of
titanium jewellery, there are still others that are not aware of what those are. The following are just a few of the good things about titanium jewellery.

Titanium jewellery is durable, strong, and long-lasting. The titanium metal is classified as one of the most durable and strongest metals as it is able to withstand almost all types of extreme conditions. It has high resistance to corrosion and does not easily change colors when exposed to liquid and other substances.

Titanium jewellery is biocompatible. This means that is does not cause rashes, discolorating of the skin, and other allergic reactions when worn.

Titanium jewellery comes in a wide selection of colors, sizes, and types. They are available as rings, bracelets, necklaces, watches, and earrings. The metal is malleable and can be formed into various shapes and dimensions. It can also be anodized and colored to make a variety of products.

Titanium jewellery is cost effective. While titanium jewellery pieces are not exactly the cheapest in market, they can actually last for a very long time, making them a good investment.

Titanium anode baskets can be created in different titanium grades depending on what they will be used for. The titanium meshes used to make titanium anode baskets can either be fine or coarse. The basket sizes can range from two inches to 50 inches in height. They can have diameters of between a quarter of an inch to several feet. Customers can actually ask manufacturers to make these titanium anode baskets according to their preferred dimensions.

Titanium is non-corrosive.Many industries make use of titanium anode baskets for a long list of applications for the following reasons:

It is lightweight but very strong and durable.

It has high anode efficiency, with uniform anode area.

It suffers from less voltage loss and is less likely to go through plating bath contamination.

It has constant current distribution and good electrical conductivity.

It is long-lasting, even if used in high-temperature and acidic applications.

Some titanium anode baskets come with hooks. These hooks are usually available with a bent edge and about five inches long for maximum strength. Larger hooks are used for titanium anode baskets that measure 36 inches and bigger.

Typical applications of titanium anode baskets include base metal plating, precious metal plating, hard chrome plating, precious metal recovery, and other electroplating processes.

A lot of people think that welding titanium and titanium alloys is difficult, but it actually is not that complicated. With basic knowledge and some experience, one can surely do a decent titanium welding job such as the welding of titanium pipes.

The steps involved in welding titanium and titanium alloys are very similar to the steps taken when welding other types of metals and metallic alloys. The main difference lies on the focus levels required when doing the task. For example, when welding steel, about a quarter of the entire time is set aside for preparation and the rest is for the actual welding. In comparison, when welding titanium, the opposite is what happens: only a quarter of the time is devoted to the actual welding.

To begin the welding process, it is necessary to remove the impurities found on the titanium metal and titanium alloys. Cleanliness of the material plays an integral role in the stability and durability of the finished product. Cleaning titanium and titanium alloys can be done by doing a chemical cleaning method using certain solutions that can eliminate the microscopic particles and bits. Do not forget to use cotton or plastic gloves.

It is also important to prepare the welding site. Contamination is one of the most common concerns when welding titanium and titanium alloys, so the welding environment has to be free from dust, moisture, air drafts, grease, and other things that can cause contamination. So, welding should not be done in the same room as the grinding, machining, torch cutting, and painting.

Once the welding process starts, there is a chance for oxygen contamination to occur. So, it is advised to shield the weld from air the moment the temperature exceeds 800 F. Pure argon is commonly used as a shield gas in these cases, while some prefer an argon-helium mixture. Certain high-performance applications use cryogenic argon or liquid argon for better welds.

There are many other factors and variables in play during the whole titanium and titanium alloy welding process, and being able to control and manage them properly can successfully produce high standard titanium welds.

Titanium is a silvery gray, transitional metal that is lightweight and strong, has low density, and great resistance to corrosion. Its name is derived from the word “titans,” a Latin term that refers to the first sons of the Earth in Greek mythology. Extraction and Processing Titanium is the planet’s forth most abundant metal, after aluminum, iron, and magnesium. It is found in various mineral deposit sites located in the United States, Australia, South Africa, Russia, Malaysia, Norway, and many others. The most common method used to extract titanium was invented by William J. Kroll in the 1930s and is called the Kroll process.

The Kroll process involves at least steps. The first one is where chlorine is added to the titanium oxide ore to react in order to yield titanium chloride. The chemical equation looks like this: TiO2 + 2Cl2 + 2C -> TiCl4 + 2CO. After that, titanium can be reduced by using either sodium or magnesium. If sodium is used, the balanced chemical equation looks like this: TiCl4 + 4Na -> Ti + 4NaCl.

The sodium chloride is removed by washing the mixture with dilute hydrochloric acid. If magnesium is used, the balanced chemical equation looks like this: TiCl4 + 2Mg -> Ti + 2MgCl2. The magnesium chloride is taken out by doing a distillation process at a high temperature and very low pressure. The extracted titanium then undergoes various processes to produce titanium ingots, titanium powder, titanium alloys, and other titanium materials, including titanium bars, titanium anodes, titanium wires, and titanium sheets for different applications, such as marine, aerospace, medical, and automotive. Cutting Cutting titanium sheets requires a high-heat, gas-cutting technique, such as the use of an oxy-acetylene torch and other tools that can be rented from stores, or a cold-cutting method, which is quite difficult to do-it-yourself because of the necessary specialized types of equipment.

The basic tools and materials needed to cut titanium sheets are the proper cutting tools, for example, a plasma cutter, a 6-inch angle grinder, and a 6-inch diameter, 60-grit flapper wheel, as well as the appropriate protection gear — safety glasses, welding gloves, and fire extinguisher — in case of emergencies. Other standard mill products include titanium tubing and titanium rods and wire
